Second Line parades have their roots in the New Orleans jazz funeral tradition. They are held by the city's Social Aid and Pleasure Clubs and for about forty weeks out of the year there is a Second Line somewhere in New Orleans, usually on Sunday. They vary in size and length but typically there is at least one brass band. Often there are floats and there is always dancing, with the paraders decked out in brightly colored clothing.
